I had known Melissa and Matt had been engaged for a little while. I also knew that they were starting to plan their wedding. I was secretly (o.k., maybe not so secretly) hoping they would choose me to be their photographer. I dropped some not-so-subtle hints along the way suggesting that their dream photographer might just be closer than they thought! Melissa was always super friendly and humored me every time I brought it up. But it wasn’t until I let go of the wedding talk and brought up my dog, Mozzie, that her ears perked up! She loves dogs!
We started discussing their two fur babies, Bella and Rusty, at length. I mentioned how much I enjoyed photographing dogs and we drifted off onto a doggie portrait tangent. I told her how much I would love to photograph her dogs and I think that’s where it finally clicked. I was her guy! Engagement portraits immediately came up in her conversation! Bingo!
This couple was sure about one thing: they wanted beautiful outdoor portraits. Some place with interesting visual features. We talked about a few locations, but I had been holding one close to the vest for a while. It was the perfect time of year and this seemed like the time to bring it out! I described my “secret spot” to Melissa and she was sold. She said it sounded wonderful and she fully trusted my judgement. I have to say, that means a lot to a photographer! Then she asked if she could bring her dogs.
“Of course!” I said. “I wouldn’t have it any other way!” I knew how important the dogs were to both she and Matt. We decided to do an engagement/family portrait session and we all couldn’t have been happier with the results!
