It’s always nice to hear from an old friend. When Madison’s mom contacted me on Facebook, I assumed it was just to say “hello” and catch up a little. After all, it’s been years and years since we’ve been in the same place and hadn’t seen each other since high school. But her message was more than that. As it turned out, she has a daughter who is about to become a senior at Staunton River High School. She had seen my website and Facebook page and told me that she was looking for a photographer to take a few photos that her daughter could use in the fall sports program. You see, Madison is a cheerleader at Staunton River and is taking out an ad in the program to show her school spirit. And while that was the primary reason for this session, both she and her mom were curious if I was the right fit to do her senior portraits in the fall.
I happily accepted the job and we made plans to meet. We picked a park as our setting since everything was so lush and green. It was hot the day of the shoot, but Madison was a trooper and never once complained. We walked around a little, looking for good spots and chatted a bit. I made her climb into tall grass and her mom even got her up into a tree! We had a good time, even with the hot weather.
Mini sessions are as much about getting to know one another as they are about the photographs. Will I be the right photographer for Madison (and her mom?) Will she be able to take direction well? How photogenic will she be? Well, I think it’s safe to say the camera loved her! We hit it off immediately and in no time were making some great photos! I’m already looking forward to our fall session!
