Your outfits are probably the most important aspect of your family portrait session. You want to coordinate with each other and give your family a stylish look. If you’re not a fashionista, don’t worry. You can find all kinds of inspiration online. Creating a pinterest board to collect “looks” you like is a great way to figure out what sort of style you want your photos to have! You can also pin ideas of locations that you like (urban, outdoors, at home, etc.)
That all depends on the look you’re after. Keep in mind that the end of summer through fall is “portrait season.” That means there will be lots of competition for appointments. So, unless you just absolutely have to have fall colors in your portraits, you will have a much easier time booking your shoot! Scheduling your session well in advance will also help you get exactly what you want. While late summer through mid fall is normally “portrait season,” great portraits can be made any time of the year!
Please understand that children, and even parents, often don’t like having their photos taken. Big surprise, huh? They don’t always smile when we want them to and they tend to wander a little to find things that interest them. Be open to this. Let me follow them around and see what great candid shots we can get. Once they get comfortable, then we’ll get the group together and start the serious stuff. After all, these photos should be fun. Making the photos should be as much of a memory as the photos themselves! So let’s all relax and have a good time!
Also, if you, or your children, become sick within a week of your session, please let me know as soon as possible. We may want to reschedule. We want everyone to be happy and healthy during our shoot!
