Let me start by saying how much I love 80’s music. I grew up in the 80’s and loved everything about it! I wore four Swatch watches on my arm at the same time, kicked around on a skateboard in checkerboard Vans and cut my hair to look like Tony Hawk. To say I was a true 80’s kid would be an incredible understatement.
Fast forward to 2016. I’ve been a photographer for a long time. I’ve photographed all kinds of people, places and things. But let me tell you, when I was hired to photograph Huey Lewis and the News in Roanoke’s Elmwood Park Amphitheater, that 80’s kid immediately came back out! I love that I get to take photographs for a living, but when I have the chance to photograph an icon from my childhood (and favorite decade,) I jump at that chance!
This concert is one of many happening this summer under the “Totally Rad Roanoke” banner and I’m excited about ALL of them! (Photos from other concerts yet to come!) It almost feels wrong to have this much fun while working! I mean, how often do you get to work while singing your lungs out? I was hoarse by the end of the night, had an incredibly great time and was able to take some awesome photos. So, let me stop talking and just show you.
