Sometimes love comes from places we wouldn’t expect. Sometimes it comes from halfway around the world! That’s the case with Kristal and Kai. You see, Kristal has been to Korea several times for work and vacation. Naturally, you’d expect her to meet interesting people while abroad but in this case, she actually knew Kai before she set foot on Korean soil. They met online and became friends. Many emails and messages were exchanged over the course of months and months and the time finally came for another trip to Korea.
Knowing this woman was special, Kai did everything in his power to make sure they met in person. During her next visit to his beautiful country, Kai made a 12-hour round trip just to meet her. And get this: He knew he would only be able to see her for a couple of hours. That’s bold, and I love bold love stories! They finally met in person and felt right at home with one another, just like old friends. They had a great visit but ultimately had to say goodbye. For now.
More emails, more messages, more cross-country trips ensued. They knew what was going on. They were falling in love. Across the globe and against all odds, their feelings grew for each other. And then, the time came. The time to ask: “Jolang gulhun hejuleh-yo?” or “Will you marry me?” in Korean. The rest is history.
So, when arriving in America, Kristal and Kai already had a wedding planned. But they needed their license. They opted to have a civil service at the courthouse to commemorate the event with a split traditional American/Korean wedding ceremony to happen at a later date. (Those pictures are coming soon!) What you see here is the incredibly fun, incredibly windy afternoon that the couple and I spent together that day. Unfortunately, they would not allow my camera in the municipal building to photograph the actual service but these photos should show you how happy and in-love these two actually are!
And, by the way, these two are hilarious! They don’t just pose like this for cameras. They act this way all the time!
