So, I guess it’s o.k. to say it: Sometimes being a photographer is more fun than work. Sessions like this one prove that. When everyone is wearing a smile on their face, all laughing and having a good time, it’s easy to forget that this is my job. But it is, and I love what I do!
When Allan contacted me wanting family portraits, he had a specific location in mind. He and his wife, Alexa, wanted an urban setting and something a little different than other family photos they had seen. Allan works downtown and loves the downtown area. So when he said he wanted their portraits on the roof of Center in the Square, I didn’t even hesitate. I told him I was IN! He knows that I like stuff that’s a little different. He also knows I’d probably do anything he asked of me. You see, Allan and I have been friends for quite a while.
This also isn’t the first time I’ve taken photos for the Mower family. When their daughter, Emily, was just a toddler, she was brought into my studio for some holiday-themed portraits for Christmas cards! You can see fun examples of those photos here and here!
So, the day came and we all met on the roof of Center in the Square. Emily brought some of her favorite things. She loves to draw and color, so when I asked her to draw something for me, she immediately looked up at the Wells Fargo tower and put crayon-to-paper. Emily is also discovering the Chronicles of Narnia and they are her favorite books. I think we all have fond memories of discovering those books as children!
The four of us explored every nook and cranny of that rooftop to find all of these wonderful spots. The gorgeous views, the living wall, the koi pond and the incredible curved staircase were all on our list. For an hour or two, that rooftop was ours and we took advantage of it! There was lots of laughing, posing and more laughing and we all had a good time!
