Out of the ordinary.
If you’re lucky, every so often you get clients with a vision. People with some real out-of-the-box thinking. Risk takers. They are my favorite people! When I was discussing this portrait session with the Surratt family, I had actual goosebumps! I mean, how many families want portraits dressed up as skeletons? Candy, Ross and little Lily sure did!
To understand this a little better, you need to know that the Surratts have a love of the macabre. But don’t let that scare you away. They all have a fun fascination with weird and spooky stuff. Lily carries around a skeleton doll named Fred. Her favorite movie? The Nightmare Before Christmas. They have sort of a modern day Addams Family vibe. I mean that in the best and most fun possible way! And no, they don’t look like this all the time. Most of the time they look like a regular, stylish young family!
In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find nicer people than the Surratts. Candy is so sweet, um, well, let’s just say her name suits her! Ross is about the best dad you’ll find, too. This guy is so devoted to his family it warms the heart. And little Lily is simply one of the most adorable children you’ve ever seen. Those piercing blue eyes just melt you.
But when we talked about tombstones, monster lighting, skeletons and such, this family was giddy with delight! And I’ll admit it: I was too. This was an incredibly fun session with and even cooler family and just made for some fantastic photographs.
